The amateur radio society of New Caledonia (Association des Radio Amateurs de
Nouvelle Caledonie, ARANC)  is organizing  a DXpedition  to the  Chesterfield
Islands (OC-176). Activity  will start  on 15  March and,  pending action  on
ARANC's application  to the  IARU for  membership, the  second phase  of  the
operation may turn out to be  the initial operation from  a new DXCC  entity,
starting on 23  March. The  radio operating  team consists  of FK8GM,  FK8HC,
JA1BK,  N4GN,   N7NG,  OH1RY,   OH2BC,  OH2BH,   OH2RF  and   another   ARANC
representative who will be named later. The Chesterfield DXpedition web  site
will be launched on 1 January 2000 [TNX N4GN]

5H      - Chris, ZS5IR is active as 5H9IR from Geita, Tanzania, a small  town
          about 80 kilometres west of Mwanza  on the southern shores of  lake
          Victoria. He will try to operate on most bands (3.5 MHz and  above)
          on SSB  and  CW. The  5H4IR  call was  issued  to him  by  mistake:
          however, the QSOs  he has made  with this call  (some 200  contacts
          made before 10 UTC on 24  December) will be  valid. QSL via  ZS6EZ.

5R      - Michel, F5LET has now moved to Madagascar (AF-013) and is active as
          5R8GL. He currently operates (mostly CW, SSB on request) on 10,  15
          and 20 metres  with a  beam, hopefully  antennas for  WARC and  low
          bands will  follow. QSL  direct only  to Michel  Bon, BP  342,  201
          Antsiranana, Madagascar (do  not use his  old address in  France!).

9A      - Look for special Millennium  station 9AY2K to  be active between  1
          January and 31 December 2000. QSL via 9A1A (P. O. Box 108, HR-10001

C5      - Peter, G4MCK will be signing C56/G4MCK from The Gambia starting  on
          24 December for twelve days. He plans to be active on 80-10  metres
          SSB only (160 and 6  metres operaions depend  on the antenna).  QSL

CE0_ei  - Willy, ON5AX will  be active as  as CE0Y/ON5AX  from Easter  Island
          (SA-001) between 19  and 25 February.  Look for him  on 14.020  and
          14.120 MHz  during  his evening  hours  (other HF  bands  might  be

FT5Y_ant- Philippe, FT5YG will going QRT in January, but will be replaced  by
          FT5YH at Dumont D'Urville (Les Petrels, AN-017). [TNX DL5EBE]
HL      - Look for operators from HL0C (http://www.qsl.net/hl0c) to be active
          (on 80,  40, 20  and 15  metres CW,  SSB and  RTTY) from  the  Soan
          Islands (AS-085) between 31  December and 5  January. QSL via  HL0C
          (Hanyang University  Wave  Research Club,  CPO  Box  4397,  100-643

HR      - Gerard, F2JD/HK3JBR is currently active  as HR5/F2JD from  Honduras
          [425DXN 449] until 4 January. On  5 January he  will leave for  Sao
          Paulo (Brazil),  where he  expects to  remain  for four  months  at

I       - Special Millennium  and Jubilee  Year station  IU0PAW [425DXN  442]
          will now be active through 31  March and possibly until the end  of
          2000. They will try to be active  on 31 December on 40 metres  SSB.

I       - Special event  station  IR0MFP ("Millennium  For  Peace")  will  be
          active between 30  December and 2  January. QSL  via IK0AZG  either

I       - Special call  II0CV  will be  aired  on  January-December  2000  to
          celebrate the 2000th anniversary of the town of Civitavecchia.  QSL

JA      - Takeshi, JI3DST/7N3UXO plans  to operate as  JI3DST/6 and  7N3UXO/6
          from Tokara Archipelago (AS-049) between 29 December and 9 January.

KP2     - Toshi, JA8RUZ will be active (on CW  and SSB moslty on WARC and  10
          metres) as KH2Y/KP2 from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands (NA-106) on 2-7

R1A_ant  - According to Anna, US4LCW, Evgenij (currently R1ANB/A) is  expected
          to start operating as R1ANC from Vostok base [425DXN 447] around 31

T8 & V6 - Hide, JM1LJS has had to change his plans [425DXN 447] and will  now
          be active as V63LJ from Ponape (OC-010), Micronesia for a few hours
          only on  31 December,  before his  licence expires.  If he  has  it
          renewed he will operate until 4 January. He will then move to Palau
          (OC-009) and operate  as T88LJ  for some  24 hours  on 4-5  January
          (however will be on the  island until 10  January). QSL via  JH8DEH

T9      - Bob, G4YRZ  will  be active  as  T9/G4YRZ from  Bosnia  between  26

TZ      - The Daily DX  reports that Larry,  TZ6VV and Trish,  TZ6YL will  be
          going  QRT  from  Mali  around  1  April  2000  after  serving   as
          missionaries for over ten years.  QSL until 1  March 2000 to  Larry
          and Trish Erwin,  BP 395,  Segou, Mali;  after that  date send  the
          cards to KB0VV  (Larry Erwin, 3850  Willomet Ave.,  Fort Worth,  TX
          76133, USA).
UA      - Igor, RW4HT will be active as  UE4HNY (CW) and UE4HNT (SSB and  CW)
          between 25 December and 14 January  to celebrate the New Year.  QSL

          Russia).
VE      - Terry, VE2PJ he will be active as VC2K from 31 December through  31

VK      - The New South Wales Division of the Wireless Institute of Australia
          will be running the special event station VK2OOO between 1  January
          and 31  December  to celebrate  the  Olympic Games  being  held  in
          Sydney. [TNX The Daily DX]
VK0_mac - Alan, VK0LD has announced that "For various reasons, VK0LD will  be
          permanently QRT from  Macquarie Island  as of  1200z 31st  December
          1999". His operating schedule  for this coming  week is as  follows

          27 Dec: 9-11 UTC tx 14003-rx 14008 kHz  JA/HL/UA0/UA9 only
          28 Dec: 9-11 UTC tx 14026-rx 14031 kHz  USA/VE only
          29 Dec: 9-11 UTC tx 14003-rx 14008 kHz  EUROPE only
          30 Dec: 5-7  UTC tx 14155-rx 14147 kHz  EUROPE only
          30 Dec: 9-11 UTC tx 14155-rx 14165 kHz  VK/ZL/P2/H4/FK/YJ etc. only
          After suggestions from some EU stations, Alan will work Europe  (on
          both CW and  SSB) by prefix  number. "I will  close down if  on-air
          protocol is not  observed", Alan states.  "I can  deal with  unruly
          pile ups if necessary, I just don't see why I should. Don't call me
          if I am not listening for  your area/country; you are wasting  both
          my time & your own". VK0LD's  logs will NOT  be available on  line.

          and "QSL  cards are  very unlikely  to  be issued  before  December

XU      - Mauro, IN3QBR and Fabrizio, IN3ZNR [425DXN  449] report from  Phnom
          Phen they have been granted permission to operate on all bands (160
          metres excluded) CW, SSB and RTTY.  Look for them  to be active  as
          XU7AAZ and  XU7AAY  until  3  January.  QSL  via  IN3ZNR  (Fabrizio

W       - Dick, K2ZR plans  to be active  from Key West  (NA-062) between  25

YO      - Romanian Amateur  Radio  Federation  (FRR)  will  activate  special
          Millennium station  YR2OOO (Yankee  Radio  Two Oscar  Oscar  Oscar)
          between 27 December and 2 January. QSL via bureau. [TNX YO3APJ]
ZA      - Stan, OK1JR will be working in Albania for a few years and has just
          received his amateur radio  licence. He plans  to operate on  2-160

ZL      - QRZ-DX reports  that Ed,  K8VIR  will be  active  as ZM4IR  from  a
          mountain top  location on  1 January  to  celebrate the  New  Year.
          Special card via W8WC. Contacts made in January with stations  from
          New Zealand will score three points towards IOTA 2000.

PACIFIC TRIP ---> Adriano, IK2GNW  will start his  Pacific Tour [425DXN  449]
earlier than  expected. Look  for  him signing  ZK1GNW  from the  North  Cook
Islands for one week starting  on 13 January.  One-week operations will  then
took place from French Polynesia (FO0PRE,  to be confirmed), Austral  Islands
(ditto), Tonga (A35NW), Wallis & Futuna (FW/IK2GNW) and Hawaii  (KH6/IK2GNW).
Actual dates depend on local flights. Operating fequencies (CW, SSB and RTTY)

IOTA 2000: RULE CHANGE  ---> Neville Cheadle,  G3NUG reports that  "following
requests from the IOTA community new  IOTAs activated in  both 1999 and  2000
will count for IOTA 2000 awards. The listing of islands on the CDXC web  site

M2000A ---> This special call will be  aired between 31 December 1999 and  29
February 2000 to celebrate the Millennium from the Greenwich Meridian [425DXN
439]. QSL via G4DFI (SWLs via BRS-32525). Special colour certificates will be
available for  working M2000A  on 5  or more  bands and  for  working/hearing
M2000A during the first 24 hours of operation. For further information please

PIRATE --->  Amin,  9M2AA  reports someone  has  pirated  his  calls  signing
9M2A/1S, 9M2AA/1S, 9M2A/MM and 9M2AA/MM on CW. "I never operated from Spratly
Islands  (Layang-Layang)  or  maritime  mobile  as  claimed",  Amin   states.
Malaysian stations do not use /1S from Spratly.

PS8HF/p ---> He was active for 24 hours  this past weekend from Pedra do  Sal
Lighthouse (DFB PI-03) on Grande de  Santa Isabel (SA-025,  DIB 19). QSL  via

QSL 5B4/UT7QF ---> Cards are via UA9AB or direct to UT7QF (Igor Serikov, P.O.

QSL FM5GU ---> Dennis, FM5GU (http://www.qsl.net/fm5gu) reports his cards are
now handled by KU9C (Steven M. Wheatley, P.O. Box 5953, Parsippany, NJ 07054,
USA). Dennis' station in Martinique is  still down, but  he plans to  restore
the antennas in time for  the WPX Phone.  He is also  active as FM5GU/I  when
working in Italy.

QSL LA8G &  TY8G ---> The  new address for  Radioamatorklubben P35 (LA8G  and
TY8G) is Postboks 941, Sentrum, N-7409 Trondheim, Norway. [TNX LA9GY]

QSL T32PO ---> Sean, AH6KG (ex-NH6PO) used the call T32PO while on  Christmas
Island back in 1989 and some DX sources  still list NH6PO as QSL manager  for
T32PO. Please note  that the correct  route for contacts  made with T32PO  in
November 1999 is via N5PO (Lee  Ward, 203 Meandering Way, Weatherford,  Texas
76086-2731, USA).

QSL TM5G ---> The QSL manager  for this IOTA operation (Glenan Islands,  1999
IOTA Contest) is  *not* F5LJA, but  F5LMJ (Alain Tuduri,  25 rue de  Jussieu,

QSL ZF2AR ---> The QSL manager for QSOs before 11 December 1998 is W4KA.  For

QSL ZS6AOO  --->  Jose  Almeida,  ex-ZS6AOO  is  definitively  back  home  in
Portugal. Although he still does not have a CT call, he will handle the cards
for the calls he used when  in South Africa, namely ZS6AOO,ZS66AOO,  ZS88AOO,
ZS500A, ZSM6A  and ZSM9A.  Cards should  not be  sent to  WA3HUP any  longer.

WLH --->  Phil, F5OGG  reports the  latest additions  to  the list  of  valid
operations include TX8LH (Amedee Lighthouse, LH 0147, 22-23 August 1999,  QSL
via VK4FW) CT1BWW/p and CT1XI/p (Bugio  Lighthouse, LH 0647, 22 August  1999,
QSL via CT1BWW). For information on  the World Lighthouse Award (WLH)  please

+ SILENT KEY + We are sad to report the news of the sudden passing of Geppino
Mauro, IB0JN (aka  I8JN, J28AZ, 9J2ML,  FL0JN/P) on 21  December. He was  the
only resident  amateur on  Ventotene Island  and old  timer IOTA  enthusiasts
still remember his operation from AF-053 back in the Seventies. [TNX I8LEL]
