The program is very use to use. As you unzip the files into a directory (i.e.
called M_MODE you are able to run the M_MODE.EXE file which autmatically
creates a new log file. If you alredy have your log, be quiet, it will not
be destroyed, the program uses your existing log file.
Now you can start to log your HRD. Simply accept your computer date and time
(if it's correctly setted to UTC time) or input a new time if you enter your
data off-line. Then choose the band and mode (20mt SSB is the default). You
can select band with F4 key and select mode with F5 key.
If you enter a wrong data don't panic, F2 key allows you to browse and edit
any field of the log. You can also change the points and multi field but
remember that EVERY time that the programs start it computes a brand new
score. Then if you correct a previously wrong country, to have the score
corrected, quit and re-enter the program. It works !
To see if the station you're listening is necessary for your contest score,
press F8 and you'll see all the countries heard on that band/mode. The
countries with a red colors are yet to be heard. The green countries will
give you only points, not new multi.
There are also two hidden keys, F9 to check countries heard on any band/mode
jus to check how many countries you worked during the whole contest and
Shift+F9 to browse/edit the PX_DXCC file. This is important: when you enter
a callsign the program check to find its prefix in the DXCC table. This works
only for normal prefixes, like G, GM, VU, JX an so on. But for the odd prefixes
you need a cross-reference table to give the correct country to a particular
prefix, like JG for JA, PU for PY, EG8 for EA8 and son on. Pressing the
Shift+F9 key you can easily add the odd prefix an the normal prefix according
to the DXCC table. Again, don't panic, you still can browse the log with
the F2 key and change the country again. So simple and easy !
Surprise.. there is another hidden key but this is dangerous. With F10 you
delete all the data logged to start a new log. Well, this is useful only
when you try the program, loggin' some HRD and then deletin' to start the
contest. Be sure to NOT use this F10 key to not destroy your data.
The F6 key allows you to save your data in an ascii LOG.TXT file that can
be easily modified and printed. This is useful when you send the log to
te committee. Add the personal data, the score and send it. Well, the F1
key is just a simple help to remember all the usable FKeys. ESC to quit.
This is a very simple program to stimulate SWL into logging contest data
with a computer. You'll find the new version and other HAM/SWL Software
in the 425DXNews web page: http://www-dx.deis.unibo.it/htdx/
A special thank to Marco I3-316/VE for its help into testin' the program.
