Isles of Fleet (IOTA-no)

MapIsles of Fleet is the collective name of a group of small islands, located in the mouth of the Fleet Bay, Scottland, the mouth of River Fleet. The group of the Fleet Islands consists of about three larger islands, several smaller and groups of rocks, drying and above water in the southeastern aproach to the Fleet Bay.

The largest island is Fleet Island (54N49, 04W14) located in the centre of the group. The islet is about 550 m long, 300 m wide and 37 meters high. It is surrounded by a large, oval shaped rocks ledge, 100 m across. On the top of Fleet Islands stands the remainds of an ancident house and a small chapple.

About 500 meters southeast is the second largest island Barlocco Island 50 meters wide and about 350 meters long. It is steep sided, and 23 meters high. On the top of that iselt stands an iron cross, errected in the 15th century.

400 Meters north west of Fleet Island lies Murray Islets, a group of two steep sided islands, the southern islet is about 50 meters in diameter and round, the northern islet is oval shaped about 100 meters by 70 meters in area. Both islands are of dark colour and vis vertical cliffsup to 8 meters.

The Fleet Islands are uninhabited, vegetated by low grass and are in private own of the National Trust of Scottland.
