Kho Chang located on 12N03, 102E21, is the most prominent island in a chain of about 25 islands, located near the east end of Thailand. It rises to an elevation of 744 metern, is gentile hilly and is of volcanic origin. The main settlement is Ban Wai Chaek, located in the south of the island, near a natural seabasin. Most of the island is a nature reserve.
There are two very historical and well known places on the island. One is an old Chinese Temple, built on the top of a 255 meter high hill in a natural grotto, and the other is the ruined Royal summer retreat built in the 19th century and known as Vimanmek Palace.
